In many ways, Alex was just like any other individual growing up. He graduated from Troy Athens High School, completed his Associate’s Degree at Oakland Community College, and went on to work towards a Bachelor’s Degree at Wayne State University’s Mike Illitch School of Business. Growing up, he loved playing sports, especially baseball. He continued this athleticism throughout his life, transitioning into bodybuilding once he was no longer playing on sports teams. Physical fitness was incredibly important to him, and he served as an inspiration to many of his friends and family members, especially his younger brother Nick. At a young age, he taught himself how to play the guitar and continued to play it through his last days with us on Earth. Music was a big part of his life, and he attended many music festivals and shows with his friends. Being technologically savvy, he played various video games and even made videos with his friends on occasion. He was drawn to the Marvel Universe, and idolized Iron Man. He was a follower of Christ, and his first tattoo was the bible verse Mark 9:23 located on his back. Alex’s love of art led him to get many more tattoos on his arm, with the hope of eventually being inked with a full sleeve. One of his most significant tattoos included five roses to represent himself, his father John, his mother Sue, and both of his younger siblings, Rachel and Nick. He also had a tattoo of a lion – his zodiac sign and favorite animal. Alex loved animals dearly, often visiting the local pet shop just to play with the puppies.
Though Alex shared similar interests with many other individuals, his charismatic nature and love for others was unmatched. He could make you laugh until you were crying, and made his friends and family feel loved and wanted. Alex ended all visits and phone calls with an “I love you,” often accompanied by hugs and kisses. It was clear that Alex wanted everyone in his life to feel important and needed, and he worked ferociously to protect those individuals whenever they ran into trouble. Though Alex passed the day before his 25th birthday, his lively nature and love of adventure lives on through his loved ones.
